The main reasons a properly designed and installed septic system to have problems are excessive water, chemicals being flushed down drains, agents that kill bacteria, physical damage to components, and lack of maintenance. Some things that you should keep in mind:

  • Pump the tank regularly
  • Use a reputable pumping company (Blow Bros)
  • If possible, be there when the tank is pumped
  • Install an outlet filter and clean it yearly
  • Maintain a written record of all pumping and any other service
  • Reduce the amount of water flowing into the system
  • Be aware of what is going down your drains
